Hi! I’m Joel.

I’ve been writing stories and drawing pictures ever since I gained enough motor control to hold a crayon.

By the grace of God I made it well into adulthood without bungling it and snuffing out my creative spark.

As a kid, my Mount Rushmore of influential artistic works were Louis Sachar’s Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends, Chuck Jones’ Looney Tunes shorts, and Hergé’s The Adventures of Tintin. There have been many more influences since then, but those four remain carved in granite and continue to inspire my work.

My greatest all-time personal achievement is stumbling into the life of a girl in my freshman drawing class, not scaring her off despite being a bumbling bonehead, and embarking with her on an adventure of marriage and illustration collaboration for the last 16 years (and counting). You can sample the fruits of our creative collaboration here.

OH! By the way—you can hire me to write or draw for your project!
